This is a live edge walnut board that I stripped the bark off with a set of chisels belonging to my great grandfather that I restored. After removing rust and sharpening the chisels I started to remove the bark. I do enjoy the look of the bark on the live edge but this step is neccassary as bark will fall off over time and expose unfinished edges causing the board to warp. Removing the bark then exposes the cambium layer which I removed with a chisel and sand paper. Its important to use a pad on the sander at this step to ensure the live edge is not flattened by the sander. This then brought me to the step I was most anxious about, cutting the slot for the cheese cutter to sit in. I measured according to the plans, set the depth on my miter saw, checked it was accurately set up 10 times and then made the cut. Thankfully with no issues. The drill bit I used was extra long to let the handle seat properly. I used Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil to seal the board. Ensure the finished used is food safe! I installed the cheese slicer after the finish dried and put rubber feet on the bottom to finish the board.
